The Old Skool was the first sneaker from Vans to feature the iconic side stripe, known as the “Jazz Stripe” by the brand. Created in 1977, and originally named the “Style 36,” the Old Skool was also the first Vans sneaker to utilize leather/suede paneling, which increased durability in comparison to all-canvas skate shoes produced prior to its release. Worn only by core skateboarders at first, the Old Skool eventually found its way onto the feet on non-skaters for casual wear, and today the timeless design is more popular than ever.
